“I could have gone on vacation, but I came”…captain Son Heung-min’s ‘dignity’ in staying with squad despite surgery
Despite undergoing surgery for a sports hernia, Son Heung-min made the team and played in the match.
Korean national soccer team coach Jürgen Klinsmann thanked the captain.
At a press conference held at the Football Hall on June 22, Klinsmann and his staff shared their thoughts on the Korean national team and their overall assessment of the team’s four matches since the A-Match in June.
Led by Klinsmann, who was appointed in February, the Korean national soccer team failed to record its first win in four A matches in March and June with two draws and two losses.
Most importantly, he played the A matches with the players he and his staff had identified and selected during the June call-up, but the team lost to Peru and El Salvador in a 1-1 draw.
One of the hot topics of the June A match was Son Heung-min.
During a training session on June 13, it was revealed that Son had undergone surgery on a sports hernia shortly after the end of the league. In a later interview, he admitted to playing with the hernia for the entire season.
He was with the team for all of their training sessions, but watched his teammates play from the bench against Peru and came on as a second-half substitute against El Salvador, where he played about 20 minutes. 메이저놀이터
“I can’t say I’m perfect,” Son said after the match against El Salvador. I decided to take a little risk and play to say hello to the fans, but the result was disappointing,” he explained.
“We were winning and I came on as a substitute and conceded a goal, so it’s my fault. I think I should have done better,” he added.
The press conference continued with questions about Son Heung-min.
