Infantino FIFA president succeeds in third consecutive term… Term until 2027
FIFA president Gianni Infantino (Switzerland) succeeded in a third consecutive term.
President Infantino’s third term was confirmed at the FIFA General Assembly held in Kigali, Rwanda on the 16th (Korean time).
President Infantino, who was the sole candidate for the next FIFA president election, became the head of FIFA until 2027.
President Infantino said, “It is an honor to serve as FIFA president and I feel a great responsibility. I am grateful for the support of the member federations.”
President Infantino, a former lawyer, was elected as the new president of FIFA in February 2016 after serving as the secretary general of the European Football Federation (UEFA).
At the time, former FIFA president Jeff Blatter, who had succeeded in his 5th term, resigned due to various corruption charges, and was newly launched under the system of President Infantino.
Afterwards, President Infantino ran for the FIFA presidential election alone in 2019 and succeeded in re-election, and four years later he became the head of FIFA again.
There were no loud voices opposing President Infantino’s third consecutive term. AFP news agency said, “President Infantino succeeded in his third consecutive term with cheers from the presidents of the 211 member federations, just like four years ago.” 안전놀이터
After leading FIFA, President Infantino oversaw massive revenue growth by expanding the scale of the World Cup.
The Men’s World Cup has increased from 32 countries to 48 from the 2026 competition, and the Women’s World Cup from 24 countries to 32 from the 2023 competition. In addition, the Club World Cup has also been changed to a method in which 32 clubs participate every four years from 2025 to compete for the championship.
FIFA limits a president’s reappointment to a maximum of three terms, but Infantino plans to run for the next presidential election as well. Earlier, FIFA decided not to include the first tenure of the Infantino in his tenure.
AFP news agency said, “President Infantino is ready to continue his term until 2031 (also running in the 2027 election).”
