The English Premier League (EPL) has broken the record for most yellow cards in a single day in 25 years.

It surpasses the previous record of 43 yellow cards on August 22, 1998, according to Opta.
Soccer outlet Goal.com added. The 13 yellow cards in Tottenham’s game against Sheffield United is a record for most yellow cards in a single match, according to the publication.

The EPL has given referees more power over how the game is run this season. According to the rules, only one player can protest a referee’s decision. If two or more players approach the referee, they can be shown a yellow card for threatening behavior.
There is also a yellow card for having more than one member of the coaching staff, including the head coach, in the technical area (the area where the head coach gives operational instructions).
